We loved our stay at the Last Drop Village (01204 873500, lastdropvillage.co.uk), a remarkable hotel, spa and artisan shop complex perched on a hilltop at the northern edge of Bolton. The venue is steeped in local stories, and offers a range of walking routes from the door as well as a spa with a warm open-air pool, which is quite lovely after a big day on the hills. Doubles from £67.15 per night; for meals you can choose between pub, bar and restaurant; options include confit of Lancashire pork belly for £17. A fantastic place to stay.
