If you’re wondering why there’s a sudden price jump, it’s because the Paclite uses Gore-Tex – still the gold standard of waterproofing technology. We couldn’t find a better-value Gore-Tex jacket than this, and it does its job beautifully. Its breathability is something else; it keeps you miraculously cool on the warmest of ascents. Its sleek, single-layer design keeps weight and bulk right down, and you get fully adjustable sleeves, waist and hood. As well as fitting snugly, the hood has a lip at the front that’s great for keeping rain off your face. It’s an absolute pleasure to wear, though perhaps opt for a size up from normal, as you might find the fit a little snug, especially with layers on underneath. berghaus.com VERDICT: ★★★★★
