The thing that surprised us about these is how much they feel like ‘normal’ walking trousers. That’s courtesy of the stretchy inner lining; your feet might get a bit caught in it when putting them on, but it gives you good flexibility, and it hugs your legs while the outer layer slides over it. This feels slightly odd at first, but you’ll soon get over it, especially when your legs are still dry after trudging through rain or long wet grass. The flared ankles drop nicely over boot-tops, preventing water dripping onto your feet, but there’s a Velcro strap at the hem in case you need to tighten it. Great value for allweather walkers, and much nicer than putting on thick, rustly overtrousers when the rain starts. craghoppers.com VERDICT: ★★★★★
