HELLIDON & CATESBY, Route 10, October 2014

We decided to meet my brother and sister-in-law halfway between where we live and found this walk that fitted that brief. The weather was hot and sunny, hence the hats. The view leaving Hellidon was absolutely stunning, and there were more oohs and aahs when we came across a one-day-old Highland cow with its mother. We kept seeing ventilation shafts from the old train tunnels beneath our feet, one of which is now a proving ground for cars as the tunnel is so straight. The pub in Hellidon was a welcome sight at the end of our beautiful walk on such a hot day!

ARAN FAWDDWY, Route 22, June 2021

Coming from the flatlands of East Anglia, the highest summit in southern Snowdonia was going to be a testing start to our week away. With only two other walkers seen all day, it certainly was Covid friendly. It set the scene for a wonderful week in Wales with the family.

ALPORT CASTLES, Route 11, June 2021

Starting near the ever-busy Ladybower Reservoir, we bagged our parking spot early. I love a walk with a mix of forest and moorland, so this was great. We got bitten to death by the entire world population of midges crossing the moorland of Rowlee Pasture, but the pay-off at the ‘castles’ was amazing!

GOATHLAND & WHINSTONE RIDGE,

Route 18, Spring 2021 My wife and I completed this walk during a stay at Easington and Bridlington. The Goathland moor was buzzing with birdlife. The views from the walk were stunning. Going through Goathland and seeing the steam trains puffing through the station was a throwback to my childhood. Thoroughly enjoyable.

BEACON HILL & BURGHCLERE, Route 5, September 2019

While taking our grandsons back to their home in Abingdon from ours in Somerset, we broke the journey halfway with this lovely walk, which led us up onto Beacon Hill. Although the day was a little misty, we could clearly see Highclere Castle of Downton Abbey fame. Here’s Roger and me with ‘Downton Abbey’ just visibly in the background.

KYLE OF DURNESS, Route 26, Spring 2021

My husband and I spent a week up at Strathy Point lighthouse along the north coast of Scotland. We did the 6-mile walk round the Kyles of Durness and the scenery was amazing. I also followed your route up Ben Hope and bagged the most northerly Munro. Unfortunately we will have to leave Cape Wrath for another visit!
