‘Where my love of walking began’,

-

‘A foreboding moor it was possible for an inner city Manchester teenager to reach by bus at the weekend, and we went many times. Its huge barren plateau was other-worldly, boggy peat that once sucked a boot off my foot. The mythical Pennine Way has to cross the plateau, which my friends all said we would tackle when we got older (none of us have yet). And no day trip would be complete without walking via Higher Shelf Stones to see the wreckage of the USAF Superfortress. Forever the place where my lifelong love of walking began.’ Dave Coppock FIND IT IN OS MAPS: SK 097 965
