Start at Torksey Lock and simply follow the canal 11 miles to Brayford Pool in Lincoln.

GETTING HERE

LNER (03457 225333; lner. co.uk) runs services to Newark Northgate on the London to Edinburgh line. From there, take an East Midlands train (03457 125678; eastmidlan­dstrains.co.uk) to Lincoln. From the bus station opposite the railway station, a 106 bus (stagecoach­bus.com; 0345 6050605) will drop you off right at Torksey Lock.

WHERE TO STAY

WHERE TO EAT

Start off the walk with a cup of tea and a slice of cake at the muchloved and award-winning Torksey

Tea Room right beside the lock (01427 718653). The Pyewipe Inn

(01522 528708; pyewipe.co.uk) has canalside tables and is a great place to stop for a drink or a meal before the final short stretch into Lincoln. The city itself has a plethora of cafés and restaurant­s serving every conceivabl­e palate.
