WALK HERE
Start at Torksey Lock and simply follow the canal 11 miles to Brayford Pool in Lincoln.
GETTING HERE
LNER (03457 225333; lner. co.uk) runs services to Newark Northgate on the London to Edinburgh line. From there, take an East Midlands train (03457 125678; eastmidlandstrains.co.uk) to Lincoln. From the bus station opposite the railway station, a 106 bus (stagecoachbus.com; 0345 6050605) will drop you off right at Torksey Lock.
WHERE TO STAY
Lincoln has a wide range of accommodation but you can’t do much better than the White Hart Hotel (whitehart-lincoln.co.uk; 01522 526222) a venerable inn thrillingly located right by the cathedral. WHERE TO EAT
Start off the walk with a cup of tea and a slice of cake at the muchloved and award-winning Torksey
Tea Room right beside the lock (01427 718653). The Pyewipe Inn
(01522 528708; pyewipe.co.uk) has canalside tables and is a great place to stop for a drink or a meal before the final short stretch into Lincoln. The city itself has a plethora of cafés and restaurants serving every conceivable palate.
