BERGHAUS Fourier

-

RRP £120 TP £120

To call it a mere fleece seems to do the Fourier a bit of a disservice: this is a high-performing technical piece of kit that has the added bonus of a snug, fleecy lining. It’s made with Polartec technology, which uses synthetic materials (polyester) to achieve the same kind of temperature regulation you’d expect from natural down or feather. I found it did a great job at keeping me at a pleasant level of warmth while negotiating the rolling hills of Somerset, and when things did get a bit tougher, it wicked away moisture with little trouble. The advantage of synthetic materials is the scope for stretchiness, and the Fourier certainly exhibits this trait: the four-way stretch fabric allows brilliant freedom of movement, while staying close and snug to the body. The hood also makes this a cosy jacket to wear by itself, or to layer under an outer shell. Unlike many hoods on fleeces, this one actually stays up, even in a stiff breeze. It’s a little heavier than some other mid-layers, so this one is probably best reserved for days you know you’ll want to wear it rather than as a spare, just-in-case layer. RB
