MONTANE Krypton Softshell Jacket

-

RRP £110 Target price £110

For want of a better analogy, Montane’s all new Krypton jacket is like a ripe avocado. Outwardly it verges on Kevlar levels of toughness. Yet on the inside it’s delightfully fluffy in texture, like a super soft towel. Montane call this textile combo Granite High-Loft. ‘Granite’ refers to the stretchy, wind and abrasion -resistant softshell fabric, treated with a durable water repellent. While not fully waterproof, it shed passing autumnal showers without leaking (the main zip is covered by a storm flap). The ‘high-loft’ part is the furry, brushed lining designed to trap warmth. Under the arms, there’s a lighter softshell fabric and fleece. This clever body mapping means the jacket is stretchier and more ‘breathable’ where it needs to be, for those energetic uphill marches. More outer-layer than mid-layer, it fits over a fleece and can be adjusted at the hem using a drawcord for a snugger fit. There are two handwarmer pockets, plus another in the chest, all three zipped and mesh lined. Hard to fault, the Krypton is just the ticket for those chillier days, when no significant rainfall looms in the forecast. The hooded version is £120. PT
