At only 27g and about the width of a 10p piece, this is designed to be an emergency fallback, but I’ve found it more useful than that. The main benefit is a gentler light: at full strength, this beams out 40 lumens, compared to my usual head torch with its 575 lumen shine. That’s great for complex terrain, but if I’m just wandering around camp it obliterates my night vision and blinds my mates. This lower output is fine for basic needs, with red mode to fully protect night vision. There’s also an automatic SOS setting and flash mode for attracting attention.
