SALOMON Outrack Hoodie
RRP £140 Target price £80
Salomon are known for their lightweight mountain gear and while this is certainly good for cold mountain days, it’s also surprisingly adaptable for everyday needs too. Muted colourways and a sleek silhouette without baffles make it a very decent jacket-about-town. With 80g of synthetic insulation, it’s light enough to wear on the move and is wonderfully breathable. It regulated my temperature admirably on steeper slopes. On a day when cloud clung to the hills and the wind came on in powerful gusts, I remained as warm and dry as when I left the centrally-heated house. Sprays of rain beaded off the Pertex fabric. The wind swerved around it. With elasticated hems at the hood, wrists and bottom of the jacket, warmth is fairly well trapped inside. The hood itself is simple, without adjustment, but well fitting and big enough to contain a ponytail. As well as the two handwarmer pockets, lined with a soft velour-like fabric, there’s also a zipped inner pocket. Sufficient on its own for low level walks on drizzly days; great as part of a layering system in the winter hills; and a cosy town jacket too. SR
