BAM 73 Zero
RRP £165 Target price £165
The 73 Zero is a commendable first foray into insulated jackets for BAM – a brand that specialises in making clothes from sustainably-sourced bamboo viscose fibres. Yet there’s not a smidgen of bamboo in it. True to BAM’s values, it’s kind to the planet, but in a different and inventive way. Its textiles and insulating wadding are made from recycled plastic, and at the end of its life (which from the durable feel of it, could well be a long one) it too can be recycled. It’s a truly ‘circular’ garment. As for features and functionality? The 73 Zero is a mid-weight insulator with casual touches, like the ribbed-knit cuffs that lock in warmth in the sleeves. The shell fabric has a PFC-free water repellent coating, making it great for chilly mizzle conditions. Both the cavernous hood and hem are drawcord adjustable for a snugger fit. This brings me to a sizing caveat. In a medium, I found the 73 Zero uncomfortably long. With the waist pockets sitting over my hips, anything stowed inside jabbed into my thigh and stomach whenever I lifted my leg to clamber over something. Sizing aside, there’s lots to like. PT
