The wonder of scroggin

-

In preparation for walking the Coast to Coast in the summer, a friend had recommended I make up copious quantities of my own trail mix – known better as ‘scroggin’. I duly bought a whole variety of delicacies, mixed them up, and divided them into small bags. Dried ginger, raisins, almonds, walnuts, chocolate chips, dried apricots, pine nuts, chopped dates and pecan nuts... and even the odd Rolo.

Regular grazing on these bags of goodies definitely boosted my energy, especially on those 15-mile plus days. Oh the joy of discovering a yogurt-coated raisin after a steep climb! I am now a scroggin convert.

Mix some for your partner before your next long walk and you may even be rewarded with a kiss, or as it is known in the business, ‘scroggin snoggin’ (oh dear, that was soooo corny!).
