GETTING HERE

Walsden and Summit are both on the A6033 between Todmorden and Littleborough, and Walsden is accessible by rail.

WHERE TO EAT

The Summit (01706 379500,

thesummitinn.com) is the obvious mid-walk pause as it sits right by the canal at its summit point. Pub grub mains like steak and ale pie around the £9 mark. There are plenty of options further south in Littleborough on the edge of picturesque Hollingworth Lake; try Riva Italian (01706 376587,

rivaitalian.co.uk) where a cacciatore pizza is £10.95, or the charming Olive and Pickle (01706 838688, theoliveandpickle.

com) which has great breakfasts and hearty sandwiches all for around £8.

WHERE TO STAY

The Lake Lounge, also on the promenade by Hollingworth Lake (01706 379091, lakelounge.co.uk), has chic doubles for around £90. And there are plenty of options a little further away in Todmorden.
