A bit about LEGWEAR
Definitely the next priority after the big three, a good pair of walking trousers or leggings have some immense advantages over jeans, chinos, cords and slacks. They’re lighter, stretchier, more flexible and more wind-resistant, and they usually have better, deeper, more secure pockets (such as a cargo pocket for a map). Some may even be water-resistant: look out for soft shell trousers with a DWR coating (Durable Water Repellent); they cost a bit more and they aren’t fully waterproof – but they will hold off a heavy shower or light drizzle. If looking for legwear, start with Craghoppers, Rohan and
Fjällräven, because they’re great at it.
Our legwear review comes out on August 18th.
