How many times have you scraped past one of these prickly shrubs on a walk and cursed? Well, research suggests it might be very useful as a source of protein. Spikes, and toxins, mean you don’t want to just start chowing on it, but isolating 1kg of protein takes about 6kg of CO2, vs 102kg for the same amount of meat. And if you are hungry now, the flowers are edible, in small quantities.
