WALK HERE
Turn to Walk 22 for your step-by-step guide to this circular route over Llandeilo Hill.
GETTING THERE
Aberedw is off the A470, five miles southeast of Builth Wells. Free on-road parking in village. Public transport is limited: nearest stop is Erwood, served by the T4 Cardiff-Newtown bus, then it’s three miles to join the route near point 5.
WHERE TO STAY
The Seven Stars Inn (01982 560 762,
sevenstarsaberedw.co.uk) has been a central feature of Aberedw for centuries, and it still offers weary travellers a place to rest in three B&B rooms, each with oak beams and simple décor. Prices start from £65 for single occupancy. There is plenty more choice in and around Builth Wells, just up the road, including Caer Beris Manor
Country House Hotel (01982 552601, caerberis. com), a Grade II listed manor set in 18 acres of parkland. Afternoon tea is served in front of the log fire, and you might even be able to toast your own crumpets. Doubles start from £84.
WHERE TO EAT
For some post-walk nourishment, it has to be the Seven Stars Inn. The welcoming pub serves up hearty favourites such as lasagne, beef pie and chicken curry, as well as a chickpea curry for vegetarians. At the time of writing, the menu was more limited due to Covid-19 restrictions, but the food is sure to be tasty whatever the range. Mains start from £10.50. If staying in Builth Wells, Georgie Porgie’s Coffee Stop (01982 551171,
facebook.com/GeorgiePorgiescoffeestop) offers a large selection of sandwiches and cakes to pack up on your walk.
