GETTING HERE

Wroxham is 8 miles north-east of Norwich, and is easily accessible by rail. Buxton is just under 6 miles north-west of Wroxham.

BOOK A WADDLE

The Canoe Man’s Waddle package opens for booking from April. (You have to pre-book, as demand is high and Mark has to bring the canoe to you in Buxton.) The package costs £70 for a 2-person canoe like ours, or £80 for a 3-person or family canoe; dogs are a fiver. The booking process, instructions and safety briefing are all excellent. Find out more at thecanoeman.com or call 07873 748408.

WHERE TO EAT & STAY

The King’s Head in Hoveton (next door to Wroxham, 01603 782429, greenekinginns.co.uk) has doubles from £72 per night. Alternatively, the 4-star Hotel Wroxham (01603 782061,

hotelwroxham.co.uk) sits right on the River Bure with swish doubles from £145. For a mid-paddle pause, we loved the Rising Sun at Coltishall (01603 737440, risingsuncoltishall.co.uk), which has mains such as smoked fish pie with Norfolk Dapple cheesy mash for £15. It also has rooms from £75.
