5 New nature gets new names
As the climate changes, the wildlife we see changes, and in Scotland a project called From the Bird’s Mouth, Bho Bheul an Eòin, is giving Gaelic names to species new to the country. The tiny firecrest is crìonag lasrach meaning ‘flaming, wee, little thing’ and the common rosefinch is deargan drise meaning ‘little red creature of the briar’. Supported by Bòrd na Gàidhlig and NatureScot, each species is beautifully illustrated by wildlife artist Derek Robertson. See fromthebirdsmouth.com
