SECOND LIFE, AFTERLIFE

-

Rehoming your redundant walking clobber couldn’t be easier. Besides escaping landfill, your surplus kit can also have a positive social impact (eBay and Gumtree aren’t the only options). You can donate unwanted gear (providing it’s clean and usable) through initiatives such as Rohan’s Gift Your Gear and Alpkit’s Continuum Project.

Both supply charities with preloved footwear, apparel and accessories, enabling young and disadvantaged people to head outdoors properly kitted out.

What if your gear is well and truly knackered? Some brands and retailers, including The North Face and Cotswold Outdoor, operate recycling schemes. Páramo will even reward you with a discount on new kit. Worn out gear can be disposed of in person or by post to be stripped of reusable parts then shipped to specialist recycling facilities.
