GETTING HERE
Craig-y-nos is on the A4067 between Ystradgynlais and Sennybridge. The T6 bus between Swansea and Brecon stops at the park (at least five a day, every day, trawscymru.info/t6).
WALK HERE
Turn to Walk 22 in this issue for a Cribarth route with OS map; find a route to Penwyllt at walk1000miles.co.uk/bonusroutes, plus walks at Clydach, Blorenge, and Mynydd Llangynidr.
WHERE TO STAY
The Gothic extravaganza of Craig-y-nos Castle (craigynos
castle.com) was once home for opera singer Adelina Patti, who designed its beautiful grounds. It’s reputed to be haunted, but the brave can stay in ensuite rooms (doubles B&B from £140 1st night; £70 for subsequent nights), with budget accommodation in the
Nurses’ Block (from £35pp/pn B&B). Or try Pentre Riding Stables just over the road, with comfy double rooms including scrumptious breakfasts from around £60pn (see booking.com).

CraigYnos). Guests staying at the castle can book in for dinner there, or the popular Penycae Inn (penycaeinn.com) is just down the road, serving dishes like syruproasted ham and Mexican chill bean pizzas. Mains around £15.
