FJALLRAVEN
Abisko Hike 35
RRP: £150 Target price: £130
Billed by Fjällräven as one of their lightest packs, it says a lot that it’s still heavier than most others here. That’s because it’s all about durability. It’s made from their standard, hardwearing, recycled waxed polyester/organic cotton fabric G-1000 Eco and G-1000 HeavyDuty Eco. To stop the weight from ballooning, the pack is somewhat stripped back: there are no hip-belt pockets and only one (adjustable) side pocket. On the left is a long, zipped opening to the body of the pack, handy for giving clear access to the contents. I appreciated the simplicity of the design but did miss being able to stash small items. Shoulder straps and hip-belt are firm, bendable and lightly padded. Again, as with most unisex packs, I did find that the shoulder straps sat slightly above my shoulders and it was difficult to get a very snug fit there. Still comfy though, and because the main compartment sits against your back, very stable and secure. That back panel is stiff and slightly bendable, providing good structure, which makes the weight of the bag feel much less than it is.
