Bartholomew’s churchyard at Butterton in the Peak District, telling the time on sunny days. But during recent restoration work, Gothic script markings were discovered on the underside of the baseplate.
Local historians are now struggling to decipher its meaning and are appealing for help. Find out more at southwestpeak.co.uk/ news and find a Butterton walk at walk1000miles.co.uk/ bonusroutes
