WALK HERE

Follow Walk 3 in this issue for your step-by-step guide linking Fritham and the Rufus Stone via King’s Garn Gutter Inclosure, Canterton Glen and the wide acres of Janesmoor Plain.

GETTING HERE

With a bit of wiggling, Fritham is reasonably easy to access from the A31. No train links sadly, and bus services are rare and variable.

WHERE TO EAT, DRINK & STAY

There are two great pubs on this walk. The Royal Oak in Fritham (02380 812606, royaloakfritham.

co.uk) has a range of great ales and simple pub grub including a renowned ploughman’s lunch, plus pizza-van visits. The Sir Walter Tyrrell (02380 813170,

thesirwaltertyrrell.co.uk) is a grander affair with seasonal menus including piri piri Portuguese baked chicken for £17. They also have a regular programme of live music, and camping pitches for £15-£20. A little further away is the Bell Inn at Canterton (02380 812214,

bellinn-newforest.co.uk), which has luxurious doubles with breakfast from £150 per night.
