Go subterranean
David Edwards walked under the A1M in a tunnel that usually carries water from Sawtry Brook under the Motorway towards Woodwalton Fen. Ingrid Neighbour went to Campbeltown to coincide with the low tide, enabling her to walk over the causeway to Island Davaar and see the Crucifixion Cave. ‘So glad we did it even though I was terrified of getting stranded by the tide!’ Denise Pont’s grandson was amazed at the stalactites on his first time in Treak Cliff cavern in Derbyshire, even if it looks as though he is screaming in terror! Sue Gorton encountered some Stunning Subterranean Sandstone Structures on a walk at Kinver Edge in the West Midlands: ‘Sandstone caves in this area were inhabited until well into the 20th century. A welcome respite from the undulating walk in warm weather.’
