Peaks, perfect peaks

-

I loved, loved, loved your piece on the Yorkshire Three Peaks. It described them with knowledge and passion. My dad and I have walked the route many times, sometimes within the 12 hours and sometimes not. At the end of May 2020 when the Yorkshire Dales allowed access after Covid but advised that no shops would be open, my dad and I set off from the Ribbleshead viaduct planning to walk only Whernside and Ingleborough and return via Park Fell. My dad was 74 and unsure if he could manage all three. But once he stood at the top of Ingleborough and looked across to Pen-y-ghent he felt he had to give it a shot. We did manage the Three and what a glorious experience it was with the ghost-town sensation of walking in the eery quietness. We saw only eight people in the whole 12 hours. The sky was a brilliant blue, if you recall those hot days in Lockdown 2020. To top it all off we heard a cuckoo singing all the way up Whernside at the beginning of the day and it was there to serenade us as we stumbled back to the viaduct after the 7-mile plod from Pen. Here’s us on our final ascent that day – Pen-y-ghent.
