WALK HERE

Turn to Walk 22 in this issue for a turn-by-turn route guide with OS map.

GETTING THERE

The walk starts from the junction of the A4212 and B4391, a 10-mile drive west of Bala. No public transport.

WHERE TO STAY

Book into an off-grid shooting lodge at Nant Ddu (where JD and AJ rented their cottage) – it’s two miles from the nearest neighbour and has glorious views of Arenig Fawr. Doubles from £80/pn (airbnb.co.uk). Or there’s a tiny bothy on the other (eastern) side of the mountain, on the shore of Llyn Arenig Fawr.

WHERE TO EAT

The closest cafe is Manon’s Riverside at the National White Water Centre in Frongoch (on the road to Bala) and it’s a good one – great coffee, cakes and lunches, plus woodfired pizza on weekends (01678 522301, nationalwhitewater centre.co.uk). Lots of options in Bala: Y Cyfnod Cafe Bistro (cyfnod. com) and Plas Yn Dre (plasyndre. co.uk) are popular spots for dinner.
