GETTING THERE

Wormelow is just west of the A49, six miles south of Hereford. Stagecoach 36 will take you there from Hereford, while the 33 will drop you off at nearby Much Birch.

WHERE TO STAY & EAT

Country Walking stayed at The Pilgrim

Hotel (01981 540742, pilgrimhotel.co.uk) in Much Birch, which is a 15-minute walk from the museum and most of its rooms have great views across the gardens and countryside. Evening meals largely feature Herefordshire produce (mains around £13), and the seasonal menus might include marinated salmon or slow cooked venison casserole.
