Orchid encounter

Your comments about orchids in the July edition reminded me about a recent walk in a reclaimed quarry area near home. We met an older gentleman armed with long-lensed camera who was passionate about orchids.

He was keen to share his excitement and spent quite some time pointing out the orchids we had walked past without even noticing. One of the ones he showed us was a bee orchid and we then went on to help him find many others in the short scrubby grass. Sometimes we need our brains educating and our eyes opening so as not to miss the treasures around us.
