Tracking Apps
Phone-based tracking apps are now so common, they need little introduction. Your main considerations are likely to be what kind of mapping they offer, and whether they are compatible with any wearable trackers/watches you use, so that the device takes the battery strain rather than your phone. OS Maps and Outdooractive are the only platforms which offer fully interactive Ordnance Survey mapping; the rest work off more basic topographic maps. The other apps are mostly free, although you can pay for ad-free premium versions with enhanced features like more detailed mapping, community recommendations, ‘competition’ forums (why?) and training programs.
