Another perspective
I think your comprehensive reply to Mr Ball in the July issue [re Black Girls Hike] is excellent, but I also think he has a point. If we are to integrate people who would not normally consider walking, then perhaps keeping them separate is not the best way. This is why I applaud the Muslim Hikers, who say anyone is welcome to join them, men and women of any faith or none, providing they respect their traditions. A recent report by UNICEF points out that white working-class boys from poor urban areas have the poorest life chances and lowest expectations of all in Britain today. I wouldn’t think forming a ‘poor white boys hike’ group a sensible idea, but encouraging walking groups to invite these boys in, would. Discuss!
