Miles walked this month: 53

Isn’t it weird how time can distort your memory of a place? We first visited the Giant’s Causeway on the stunning Antrim coast over 20 years ago. It was a grey wintry day and we largely had the Causeway to ourselves. I was knocked out by its geometric beauty but a little disappointed it was a fair bit smaller than I’d imagined. Fast forward to 2022 and we returned on a bright and breezy late summer afternoon. I knew my daughters ( at the top of the rocks, above), would love it, but I’d pre-warned them it was “smaller than you think, you know…” As we approached though, it hit me that my memory of its compactness had become grossly over-exaggerated over the years. My expectations lowered, it was actually BIGGER than I’d remembered and so even more impressive e this time! Slightly baffled by this paradox of my own creation, I was able to see this s amazing landscape with fresh h eyes and appreciate it all the more second time around.

Note to self: While life and d time change us hugely, it’s reassuring to know the landscapes we walk change very little as the years pass, (except in memories perhaps!) s!)
