Isn’t this a spiffing picture? It’s called Hiking and it was painted circa 1936 by Northumberland-born artist James Walker Tucker. A bright, bold and forward-looking tempera masterpiece from rambling’s interwar golden age, it’s probably my favourite artwork so far in the catalogue of walking art I’m compiling.
