Vibram say that their Arctic Grip AT outsole (as used on the Danner Arctic 600) is the most advanced cold weather gripping system they’ve ever created. The compound is made entirely from rubber (no metal or plastic components or inserts), with the aim of essentially turning your foot into a tyre and providing maximum traction over cold, wet surfaces. It does come with two warnings though. 1) It’s not designed for, and may harm, indoor surfaces. 2) Although it improves traction, it still cannot guarantee to prevent slipping on ice and snow, and should not replace spikes or crampons in such conditions.
