Illustrator Miles walked this month:

A handful… but that’s OK, because quality, not quantity is my walking mantra these days. I have little choice with a two-year-old. Though, let it be known, he’s the greatest little adventurer I know, with a hunger for the outdoors equalled only by the likes of

Sir Ranulph Fiennes!

My wife and I used to clamber over the peakiest of mountainscapes, often

(usually) returning in the dark, stretching the day as far as possible. Now, the walks are little more than a plod in the woods but they hold just as much joy for me – even more if I’m honest! Watching our son discover the outdoors is a thrill that completely absorbs me. Hours vanish as we explore our local area, discover new creatures lurking under piles of leaves or meet the characters of his favourite book on the local Gruffalo trail – and after a walk in the woods, bed is closer too, thankfully!
