PEN Y FAN, Route 20, August 2022

We tackled this one as a family when we found ourselves on holiday in the vicinity. We battled the elements as we made the ascent.

As you can see, the views were virtually non-existent but, despite the weather, there were plenty of people at the summit, including a kind lady who offered to take the photo of us all! We’ll just have to do it again in better weather... Valerie Surguy, Uxbridge

SANDFORD ORCAS & CORTON DENHAM, Route 2, May 2022

A walk of two halves; wet for the first loop, with a stop-over midway for pub lunch and to dry off! The sun treated us for the second part.

Beautiful views over the Somerset Levels and enough turnip fields to last us a lifetime! Holly and Tracey, Shaftesbury ATTERMIRE SCAR & VICTORIA CAVE, Route 19, September 2016 Taking advantage of some autumn sunshine we found this walk in our archives of CW. The description is six years old but was still accurate and easy to follow. The views were amazing, with Pendle one way and then, when we had lunch at Victoria Cave, Pen-y-ghent was the other (see picture). In Settle we explored the market stalls and then tea and cake in the quirky Folly Coffee House with museum next door. Chris Granger, Clitheroe IRONBRIDGE, Route 10, April 2022 My husband, Mike and I enjoyed an autumnal walk around the amazing Ironbridge gorge. Footpaths, disused railway line, woods, the River Severn made for a memorable walk. We were lucky that the sun shone for us and the paths weren’t too muddy. Liz Funning, Surrey

GRETNA, Route 23,

February 2021

I planned this little one on the way home from a weekend in Moffat, in the spirit of your Walking Weekend. Gretna and its ‘first town in Scotland’ status is pretty historic, the walk is easy and takes in good paths. A brill wee walk and great directions. Nigel Carter, by email

RAMSLEY & BIG MOORS, Route 11, July 2020

A cracking walk on a gorgeous November day along good tracks, if a bit damp in the woodland. Couldn’t miss the Hoof Fungus on the silver birches but no luck with spotting any water voles in the Barbrook valley pond! But an hour and three quarters! Does Carol run round her routes? Bruce White, Leicestershire
