WARM UP WITH FINE FARE
Cambridge institution Fitzbillies (51-52 Trumpington Street) is worth a visit to soak up the university vibe. A legendary place of work-avoidance in my day, it is now full of bright young things on laptops. Café Savino’s (3 Emmanuel Street) is such a favourite of the writer and academic Robert Macfarlane that he hopes their “No. 3 Sandwich” (artichoke hearts, dolcelatte & rocket with extra chillis) will be renamed “The Rob”. Cambridge has plenty of hip new bars too: the best of these is (10 Peas Hill), a restaurant-bar inspired by the beer houses of the 1830s.
