Maid’s Head
After a triumphant day – or night – collecting rare swallowtail butterflies or moths at Wicken Fen, 19th-century lepidopterists found refreshment at the Maid’s Head in Wicken. One of the oldest pubs in Cambridgeshire is still refreshing and warming visitors with its fire in the middle of the pub. Very good pub food from wild mushroom tortellini (£11.95) to catch of the day and pie of the day (£11.95). 12 High Street, Wicken, CB7 5XR. 01353 720727, www.maidsheadwicken.com www.countryfile.com
