Going out to gather a wild harvest is one of the most satisfying ways for you, your family and your friends to spend a couple of hours on a sunny, lateSummer afternoon. Especially now, as there are plenty of berries on the trees and in the hedgerows, and the tang of autumn hasn’t yet kicked in properly.

Any forager will tell you that this time of year is the best for the task, since this is when berries, mushrooms and nuts – the prize ingredients for any forager – are available for those with sharp eyes. The thrill of seeking out free foods like this is something that can’t be replicated online; it’s an experience which brings all your senses into play.

All the ingredients used here are at their best at this time of year, but they won’t be for much longer… So get out and start gathering them up before autumn turns them bitter.
