O’Brien relishing chance to work with club legend Oggy

-

COVENTRY City signing Liam O’Brien says he can’t wait to work with Sky Blues legend and current goalkeeping coach Steve Ogrizovic.

The 25-year-old goalkeeper has previously worked with a number of high profile figures, and expects his experience with Oggy to be no different.

Speaking to the club’s website, O’Brien said: “I started off at QPR and moved to Portsmouth. I was with players like David James and Sol Campbell, which was surreal at the time. Being young, I learnt a lot from it.

“Just being around them and seeing faces I’d only seen on TV before, was brilliant.

“I’m looking forward to working with Steve Ogrizovic. It’s always nice to work with different people and it’s going to be really good to work with him. “I can’t wait.” O’Brien became Mark Robins’s fifth signing of the summer yesterday, as the Sky Blues boss looks to build a squad capable of winning promotion back to League One at the first attempt.

His arrival follows the signing of his Pompey teammate Michael Doyle, and the goalkeeper is clear on his target for the season.

He added: “You can see the signings that have been brought in. It’s a club that’s definitely going places.

“Michael will be a massive influence around the club. Obviously we’ve just had a promotion with Portsmouth, and hopefully we can achieve the same again here.” NUNEATON Town have completed the signing of rising star Luke Trotman.

A versatile performer who is able to play in a number of positions on the right-hand side, he was a first-year professional at Luton Town, where he was a highly-rated prospect who was being monitored by Manchester United before a broken leg halted his progress.

The 19-year-old went on to study at Loughborough University, where his footballing prowess caught the eye of Tommy Wright.

“He is very athletic and possesses plenty of pace and power,” Wright said. “He’s very good in one versus one situations and has an eye for the spectacular.

“He trained with us for a week towards the end of the season and did very well. I am delighted to be able to add him to the group; he is a determined, bright, young player who knows what he wants and will be ready to fight for a starting place.

“With the likes of Luther Wildin, Alex Penny and even Tom Elliott, we are starting to get options all over the pitch.

“We are close to agreeing deals with a left-sided centre back and a target man. After that there will probably be room for one more attacker, who I am prepared to wait on and would be a huge boost to the football club should we be able to secure his services.

“Then we’ll focus on adding to the group via the Academy players who have been fantastic and will feature heavily through pre-season and the loan market once the campaign is underway.”

For Trotman it is the ideal move. “I’m really excited by this challenge,” he said.

“I spent a few days with the club towards the end of the season and it was clear to see then that this is the perfect place for me to come in order to continue my development.

“It’s a big jump in level, but I am happy to be here and can’t wait to show what I can do. The general vibe around the place is so positive; I know that I will progress here. I’d like to think that I will bring energy and determination to the group.

“I like to get forward as much as possible and the aim is for me to establish myself here and help the club continue to pushon.”
