THE Slug and Lettuce is coming to Coventry later this year, when the popular chain moves into the Establishment Bar and Grill in the city centre .

The announcement has been greeted with enthusiasm by punters and those in charge of promoting Coventry as a destination for shopping and eating are delighted with the news.

The bar is expected to close in early summer for refurbishment.

The work will take about a month then the business will reopen as the Slug and Lettuce.

And before that, the popular bar is set to treat city drinkers to a Drink The Bar Dry closing night.

“Come celebrate the beginning of our massive refurbishment before we welcome Slug and Lettuce to Coventry,” organisers say.

The event takes place on Saturday, June 17, and will kick off from 7pm.

Slug and Lettuce pub chain lines up “massive refurbishment” for the Establishment

The Establishment was bought by the Stonegate Pub Company last year. The company is the owner of the national Slug and Lettuce chain.

Assistant manager of the Establishment, Callum Rigby, said: “There is going to be a massive refurb.

“We’ve just announced it on Facebook and we had a really busy weekend - it had to be one of the busiest places in town.

“We’ve already changed hands and we’ll probably be closing at the end of June for about a month for the refurbishment.”

Trish Willetts, Coventry Business Improvement District manager, said: “The Slug and Lettuce will be a welcome addition to Coventry and we’re thrilled that it will be arriving very soon.

“The business is a trusted and recognised brand and I’m sure it will be a hit with shoppers and visitors.

“The Slug and Lettuce is just one of many exciting businesses that will be arriving in the city centre over the next few years. Work on the other half of Cathedral Lanes Shopping Centre is confirmed to begin in the near future, bringing even more big name restaurants and the City Centre South development will help usher in a new era for Coventry.”
