Charity’s gift for teenager

-

KIND-HEARTED charity workers have helped to bring a smile back to the face of a Nuneaton schoolboy following a savage attack.

Patrons of Georgie’s Gift were, like so many others across the borough, left shocked and sickened by the attack on the young boy, named locally as Owen.

Matt Hall, who founded the charity with his wife Paula in memory of their daughter Georgie, who sadly died from meningitis, said they felt compelled to do something for the teenager.

“If you are a genuine person, you are just horrified and we just wanted to make a gesture to help bring a smile back to his face,” Matt said.

It was Matt’s best friend, Rich Stanton, one of the charity’s patrons, who came up with the idea of donating the behind the scenes family ticket tour of Wembley Stadium.

“It was Rich’s idea and we said ‘brilliant, go for it,’ so he contacted the family and we found out that the lad is a big England football fan so the stadium tour was perfect.”

Rich went along to the family home to deliver the gift.

“He (the lad) was chuffed to bits, we are just glad to be able to do something to make him smile again. What happened to him was shocking and we are just happy we have been able to do something for him.”

Warwickshire Police has confirmed that three boys, who have not been identified, were brought in for questioning following the attack on a 13-year-old in George Eliot Memoria Park last Thursday night.

All three have been released under investigation.

But officers are still keen to hear from anyone with any information about the incident.

Anyone with any information should call police on 101, quoting incident number 352 of August 3, or the Crimestoppers hotline, which is free to call from a landline and confidential, on 0800 555 111.
