Pensioner’s energy supply ‘changed without consent’

A COVENTRY pensioner has accused an energy company of taking her gas and energy supply after a switch was made without her consent.

Sandra Camwell, of Keresley, got a call from energy company Green Star asking if she wanted to switch suppliers earlier this year – but the company did not take no for an answer. Five months on Sandra’s gas remains with Green Star and she is refusing to turn on her heating.

Sandra said: “When they called I said I was not interested. Then the following month I was amazed when my existing supplier SSE asked me for a final meter reading,” when I asked why, they told me Green Star has taken over my electricity and gas. They’d done it totally without my authority.”

Sandra, who is in her mid 70s, complained to Green Star to no avail. She contacted the Citizen’s Advice Bureau and even put in a call to the government’s energy minister. Her electricity supply was switched back to SSE earlier this summer but her gas supply is still with Green Star – and she is too scared to switch on her central heating. “I don’t want to use any gas because I don’t know who I’m paying for it,” she said. “I’ve had no apology from Green Star. Luckily the original sales call was taped, so they know I said no. Their current excuse is that they have problems with their computer system.” A spokesman for Green Star Energy, which is based in Milton Keynes, confirmed they are assisting Sandra in resolving the issue. They said: “While we acted quickly to initiate the transfer back the customer’s incumbent gas provider upon her request, we did experience unusual delay in completing the switch. “At this time, the transfer process is in place with SSE. We regret any upset caused to the customer and have provided her with compensation as a gesture of goodwill in view of the inconvenience caused. It is our priority to ensure that every customer experience is a positive one. Should circumstances arise that fall short of that expectation, we are committed to working towards a satisfactory resolution.”
