What will City of Culture success do for Nuneaton?
NUNEATON and Bedworth hope to benefit from the ripple effect of neighbouring Coventry bagging the City of Culture status for 2021.
In congratulating the nearby city, Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council is looking forward to the opportunities that the bid win could bring to the two towns.
The borough, especially Bedworth, is on the doorstep of the city and the City of Culture status could open the door to potential funding right down to providing places for visitors to stay and even visit.
Councillor Dennis Harvey , Town Hall leader, said: “What wonderful news! We send our warmest congratulations to our neighbours in Coventry. The City of Culture status will transform the city and benefit the whole of Warwickshire .
“We’ve seen what it has done for other cities, how it increased pride, raised the profile and improved the economy. As a Bid partner, we are proud of the contribution we have made and we look forward to taking the next steps on this exciting journey together. Well done Coventry on a worthy win after a most compelling and imaginative campaign!”
Cllr Ian Lloyd, cabinet member for arts and culture, added: “This is absolutely fantastic news for us all - Coventry city’s amazing achievement will boost arts and culture across Warwickshire as a whole.
“Here in Nuneaton and Bedworth we have been proud to support the Bid; there are exciting times ahead and with so many opportunities for our residents and visitors, we’ll be fully engaged with the team in Coventry working towards 2021.”
It has previously been reported that the borough council threw its weight behind Coventry’s bid which last night, to the city’s delight, was announced as the winner of the City of Culture for 2021.
