Will they build affordable first?

-

YOU reported the decision to pass the Local Plan, which allows extensive release of green belt land, both in Coventry and around its borders.

Those at the meeting were told that the population figures used to produce the housing numbers in the plan were “stupid”. Resident groups had already challenged this figure during the consultation process.

Councillor John Mutton stated: “I don’t want development on the green belt and I want to stop money-grabbing developers from developing the green belt when there are brown field sites that can be developed.”

Unfortunately, the plan allows developers to do exactly this. The discredited housing numbers are vitally important, and drive every decision taken in the Local Plan.

Did the councillors not read the 300-page Local Plan report and the 50-page Inspector’s report? If so, why did they not realise how important this mistake was and take corrective action?

So what actually happened. The plan was modified slightly to water down any references to “brown field sites first” to the extent that developers can immediately start development of green belt sites.

Will they build any affordable houses for the general population or maximise profit on green belt executive homes first? One guess. Clive Birch Tile Hill
