POTHOLE PATROL TO TACKLE TOWN ROADS

POTHOLE-ridden roads left battered by bad weather across Nuneaton and Bedworth are expected to be repaired by a dedicated team.

Motorists across the two towns have been venting their anger at the state of roads across the two towns, highlighting crater-esque holes to literally steer clear of.

Such is the level of unrest on several social media platforms that the Telegraph decided to contact Warwickshire County Council, which is responsible for roads, to see if there was a pot-hole repair programme in place.

A spokesperson for Shire Hall explained that there are two dedicated pothole inspectors that are on patrol across the county on the lookout for serious problems, which are then added onto the repair programme. “The road network in the Nuneaton and Bedworth area of Warwickshire has experienced deterioration over the winter due to recent snow, frosts and heavy rain,” the spokesperson said.

“County Highways is prioritising pothole repairs and has instructed its area teams to identify defects and issue works instructions to our term maintenance contractor (Balfour Beatty).

“Any defects which exceed our 100 mm category 1 intervention criteria are made safe within an hour.

“County Highways also currently has two dedicated pothole inspectors in addition to our normal safety inspection teams. They are travelling the network and identifying defects which are then programmed for repair.”

In November last year, it was revealed that more than £20,000 in tax payers’ cash had been forked out in compensation to drivers after their vehicles were damaged by pot holes across the borough.

Through a Freedom Of Information (FOI) act request, it emerged that the county council had paid out £22,503 in compensation as a result of potholes in roads across the town towns over the past three financial years.
