Residents hit out over new homes

-

HUNDREDS of extra houses will add even more woe to traffic hit Nuneaton town centre which needs better roads, more jobs and hospital space to cope.

That is how Telegraph readers reacted to the news that plans to build up to 850 homes on land off the A5 have been given the goahead.

Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council’s planning committee approved the outline proposal for the huge ‘Callendar Farm’ development, which could see up to 850 homes as well as primary school and a community hub/local centre can be built on land on farm land off the Long Shoot.

However readers think that there are far more pressing issues that need to be resolved before the first brick is even laid on the new development.”

Tracey Fyfe said: “How many more without investment in the road network. This area cannot support more houses. Period.”

Ryan Hobson added: “As for traffic, the town centre management is the biggest failure!”

Tracey Fyfe agreed: “Yep. A5 is bad enough on the morning as it is.” Rory Bateman added: “Forget the state of the town and infrastructure, more houses more houses.”

Reg Woolley asked if there are the employments opportunities needed for the influx of new residents, saying: “Where are the jobs for all these folks?

While Bridget Smith said: “The hospital cannot accommodate everyone as it is with being full all the time and no beds”

Education is key for Stuart Dunnigan, who posted: “What about secondary schools? All the secondary schools in the town are already stretched to breaking point.”

Despite being given initial approval, a further detailed planning application will have to be submitted to the Town Hall, outlining exactly how many homes and what other features will be on the development, before work can start.
