DRIVERS FACE DELAYS AFTER ROAD CLOSED AGAIN

- By CLAIRE HARRISON Nuneaton Reporter news@trinitymirror.com

DELAYS await drivers who use a main route through a Nuneaton community as it is about to be closed for more than a month.

Warning signs have already appeared in the Galley Common area, telling people that Plough Hill Road is to close today for a total of five weeks.

On the signs, it stated ‘Delays possible.’

It has only been a matter of months since the main route was re-opened after it was shut for weeks due to a major water leak. Everyone from motorists to businesses and householders were hit by the closure and now could potentially face even more traffic woes.

As previously reported, Highways bosses at Warwickshire County Council have agreed the road closure due to works that are now needed for the new housing development.

A Shire Hall spokesperson explained: “The upcoming work on Plough Hill Road in March is to complete the construction of a sewer line for the new Taylor Wimpey development. Unfortunately the works cannot be done off line as they need to connect to the main sewer pumping station which is located in the middle of the carriageway on Plough Hill Road.

“The length of the sewer to be constructed is approximately 350m including the construction of connected manholes which all has to be open cut. The duration of these works has been authorised by our Network Manager and deemed an appropriate duration. The land running adjacent to Plough Hill road is private so cannot be utilised for this purpose. “
