A WARWICKSHIRE town has been named as the best place to live in the Midlands.

The Sunday Times Best Places to Live 2018 was released last weekend and Shipston-on-Stour, in south Warwickshire, came out on top.

The guide used figures from the Office of National Statistics to calculated that the small town is the best place to live in the region.

It revealed that the average salary is £22,929, while the average house price is £301,810.

Nationwide, York took the title of the best place to live in the UK.

According to the Sunday Times, “York’s combination of ancient beauty and a recent modernisation means it is ranked as the Best Place to Live in Britain for the first time.

“The period buildings, meandering river and iconic Minster have ensured the city a billing in every Best Places list to date, but it now comes out in top spot due to its emergence as a mini metropolis, with trendy cafes and destination restaurants, innovative tech and media firms, and a dynamic workforce.”

The list was compiled by both The Sunday Times and online mortgage brokers Habito, and Habito Founder and CEO Daniel Hegarty, said: “The Midlands saw some of the fastest house price growth in the UK last year, at 7.2% in the West Midlands and 6.4% in the East Midlands.

“While the Best Places to Live looks beyond house prices, we know that the process of getting a mortgage means that finding a dream home can be a nightmare. Whether you are considering using Government schemes to buy for the first time, or are looking to remortgage ahead of the Bank of England’s next interest rate rise, using a broker can help your chances and make the process as smooth as possible.

“With an estimated 1 in 4 people overpaying on their mortgage by £4,100 every year, even those homeowners lucky enough to be living in Harborne or Shipton-onStour could potentially benefit from checking how much they could save.

“Using a free online mortgage broker like Habito can save homebuyers time, money and a whole lot of stress, leaving people to think more about the neighbourhood and house that’s best for them and less about their mortgage.”
