£170,000 PAID IN PARKING FINES IN BOROUGH

MORE than £170,000 has been forked out in fines after illegally parked motorists were caught out by traffic wardens in Nuneaton and Bedworth.

Latest information from a Freedom of Information (FOI) Act request has revealed that there has been a huge 5,722 Penalty Charge Notices (PCN) given out to drivers across the borough between 2016 and now.

Through this, a grand total of £176,106 has been collected in fines from drivers.

Interestingly more drivers were caught in 2017/18, with a grand total of 3,047 fines being dished out compared to 2,675 in 2016/17.

But the actual amount of money collected was more in 2016/17, which shows that more motorists did not take up the opportunity of paying the fine at the earlier stage.

Warwickshire County Council has been responsible for on street parking enforcement across the borough since 2011 when the county’s council’s own traffic wardens, known as Civil Enforcement Officers (CEOs), took over the responsibility of dishing out parking fines from the police.

The day-to-day operation of the on-street parking service is carried out by CEOs employed by NSL on behalf of the county council, and they are tasked with carrying out patrols.

It understood that money raised from PCNs goes into a pot which is used to pay for parking enforcement across the whole of Warwickshire. Problems with parking are often hot topics on social media forums across the two towns and people can report parking issues by emailing warwickshireparking@nslservices.co.uk
