‘Make fewer flats and have more car park’

YOUR REACTION TO PARKING PLAN FOR NEW STUDENT APARTMENTS DEVELOPMENT...

- By LAURA HARTLEY News Reporter laura.hartley@trinitymirror.com

THERE has been a mixed reaction to the news that less than 30 parking spaces will be built to accompany more than 210 student bedrooms.

Residents around Standard Avenue and Fletchamstead Highway are furious at plans for 210 student flats which have just 26 parking spaces.

A petition has been signed by more than 200 residents objecting the build.

The planned Fletchamstead Highway student flats would be built on the Auto Choice car dealership site.

Despite a large amount of protest against the build, not everyone is against the proposal. Kara Brett: “Why don’t they build homes for the homeless people!! We don’t need anymore student apartments...”

Barbara Magee: “The city is like a ghost town, no shops anymore, cafes which folks can’t afford.”

Steve David: “Coventry is slowly being taken over.”

Dec Connolly: “Think I’d rather have more students in our city rather than people from Coventry. Never known such a negative, pessimistic bunch of people in my life. Why not embrace the students and all that’s good about our city, there’s a lot going on - open your eyes to it!”

Kenny Can: “We don’t need any more student apartments, what about building apartments families, jokers.”

Antny Rollason: “If we got to have more student housing then they need to have parking it’s that simple really, make fewer flats and have more of a car park. Why should the street get clogged with all the students the private developers bring to the city when it’s already a pain to park.”

David Stupples: “How about building more services like schools to support the increased population.” Kerrie Brennan: “No point in fighting it, it will go ahead no matter what. Green belted land is being built on all over and TPOs are removed at the click of a finger to make way for development. A car parking issue won’t stop this being built.”
